We welcomed Ivy to our class this week. Ivy has been living in Cyprus and we are so happy that she has come to join us.

Computing

This week we learned about how "big data" is stored. We learnt about barcodes and QR codes and how they are used, and then went on a QR Code Treasure Hunt. This involved scanning a QR code in a specific location, deciphering the riddle on the code and then moving onto to the next riddle hidden elsewhere in the school. Lots of fun was had by all.

P.E.

After our Computing lesson, we walked up to the netball courts for P.E. This term we are learning hockey skills. Mrs Elson reminded us about some of the safety rules, so we had to remember not to swing our sticks about! We were divided up into groups so that we could practise our passing, dribbling and shooting skills. Then on Wednesday it was back to the Kennylands Gym again, to learn new skills.

History

We continued learning about the Anglo-Saxons this week. This time, we looked at some of the old Anglo-Saxon words and how many of our cities and towns in this area have those words in them. For example, bury in the old Anglo-Saxon language meant 'a fortified place', and we have the town of Newbury nearby. It was fascinating to look on a map of the area and see where the Anglo-Saxons settled. We will be visiting the Museum of Oxford on 30 January and look forward to learning more there.
