Greys class 15th March

Date: 14th Mar 2019 @ 9:07pm

We began the week with our Henley Youth Festival workshop "Singing with Lucy' in which we learnt a new song and choreographed our own dance moves.

This week we shared our homework posters with everyone and went on a treasure hunt around the classroom finding different materials and sorting them accordingly. We then labelled their properties and identified that plastic was the most popular material we had found.

On Wednesday we used our recyclable materials to create a model of a house which proved a lot trickier than we originally thought. We had to base it on a specific design and were given a selection of materials to use to join the materials together. It took quite a while and we will be evaluating our creations next week, before designing and making some items of furniture to go into a house.

In Maths the Year 2s have been multiplying and dividing using arrays and beaded lines to group, whilst the Year 2s have been using their number bonds to 20 and adding and subtracting 10,20 and 30 to and from 2 digit numbers using a number square.

In Literacy we continued to look at Silly Billy and Operation Night Monster  and we wrote letters to Grandma pretending we were Billy and described what happened after she gave him the worry dolls. We also created our own story based on the two novels. We have spent a lot of time over the last few weeks focusing on our handwriritng and using conjunctions to extend our sentences and the improvements have been amazing!

In Phonics the Year 2s have been working on the 'zh' sound spelt with an s, as in television, usual, etc and the Year 1s have working with the alternative or sound.

In Science we also explored the different environments that animals live in and explained why they live in those places.

On Wednesday morning we will be visiting Pizza Express, where we will be using natural healthy ingredients to make our own pizzas. We will be back at school in time for lunch.

We have had some very entertaining Show and Tells recently and were even vsiited by two tortoises on Thursday morning which was very exciting!
