Greys class 21st January

Date: 20th Jan 2022 @ 9:40pm

Another busy week in Greys class!

We finished writing our fact files on meerkats and then moving on from a story set in a hot climate, we moved onto one in a cold climate called Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers. We wrote lists of things that we would take on holiday to a cold place and used adjectives to describe our items and then used commas and conjunctions to put them into sentences. We also wrote a list of questions that we would like to ask the Penguin if we met him.

In Maths we have been sharing equally and grouping items, before the Year 2s moved onto using the division symbol. We also spent some time working on odd and even numbers.

We have been learning about musical vocabulary and it’s meaning and the effect that it has in playing music ,eg tempo for speed, dynamics for loud or soft , and timbre for quality of sound. We then chose appropriate instruments to tell a story .

In Geography we looked at extreme weather and designed a poster warning of the dangers of a heatwave and ways in which we could protect ourselves. We also looked at a map of world and located some hot and cold countries.

We used our knowledge of mixing colours from last week to create hot and cold shades to fill in different sections to create a picture of hot and cold tones.

Thank you to Max, Charlie and Henry for their fabulous book reviews. It was lovely to see how much the boys enjoyed talking about their chosen books and share with their classmates.

Book reviews this week are Lara, Taylor and Jack. Templates can be found in the homework section on school spider or please feel free to create your own.

Homework

Maths

Year 1 - I have set challenges on Sumdog related to this week's learning in Maths. Please try to complete at least 10 minutes each day.

Year 2 - I have set the relevant times tables and division facts for you on Sumdog, you may also wish to practise using other sites and resources. If you handed your mental maths book in today it will have been updated accordingly.

Reading

Please continue to read for at least 10 minutes daily. For those who are managing to read every night a huge well done!

We have had a lovely few weeks learning about the weather and hot and cold climates and are now readty to move onto our new topic next week, "What has changed since your grandparents were young?" Children will look at how life has changed since their grandparents were young and compare it to the present day with a particular focus on toys and games. To kick start this topic we will be going to Milestones Museum on Wednesday 26th and will need all children to be in the classroom for 8:40am as we hope to leave at 8:55am promptly. The children are very excited about the trip and looking forward to the different workshops and visiting the old fashioned sweetie shop and pier! They will need a packed lunch and water bottle. Please ensure that you have completed and returned the form to the office. We will back at school for the end of of the day.

Have a lovely weekend!
