Greys class 8th October

Date: 8th Oct 2021 @ 8:21am

This week we have enjoyed watching some of the live Henley Literary Festival events. We began the week listening to the trilogy of stories of The Runaway Pea, then we listened to Francesca Simon, the author of the Horrid Henry series share her new book, Two Terrible Vikings and then Smriti Halls not only read her lovely story I’m sticking with you but taught us how to draw the main characters, the bear and the squirrel. We were so pleased with how our drawings turned out and were very proud of ourselves.

In Maths we have been counting in 2s, 10s and 5s and then moved onto fact families using addition and subtraction, which we will continue with next week. A few people have asked me about websites to practise division, so in addition to those Maths websites on the school website please find a few listed below which might help the children practise at home.

There is also a Squeebles app for times tables and one for division, which I know a few children are finding good fun.

On Monday afternoon we spent the afternoon weaving on mini looms. It was a lot trickier than the paper weaving that we mastered a couple of weeks ago, but we persevered and are looking forward to finishing them off next week.

In our reading sessions we have been reading Mr Gumpy’s Motor Car, we predicted what excuses the animals might make before we read the story and then when we had read it, we compared our predictions and decided which excuses were fair reasons and which were not.

In PSHE we talked about what things are important to us when we grow up. We sorted them into piles of what we felt were important and those that aren’t. Whilst money, a nice home  and family were important to many of us, things like travel and learning to drive didn’t seem as important for many.  It was interesting to see how different some of our views were, but we were all able to explain why we had made the decisions that we had.

Mr Steele took us for Computing on Wednesday afternoon and we continued using Sketchpad which was so much fun and he was very impressed with our skills.

In PE we have been playing games and practising making a star formation to include in our dance. We were also trying to skip and side step in a circle without making the circle smaller.

We have been practising our song for the Harvest church service next week and in our Music lesson added actions, untuned percussion and tried very hard to keep the beat together.

Thank you to Grace and Holly for their books reviews this week, which were;

Pokemon, Sun & Moon by Hidenori Kusaka & Hangem High School by Steve Barlow.

Next week’s book reviews are  Lily, Henry and Ryder. Please feel free to use the templates in the homework section on the website or create your own.
