Greys 17th March

Date: 17th Mar 2023 @ 3:02pm

Greys have had a week of jam-packed learning.

In maths, the y1s have concluded their place value work within 20. We have explored number lines to 20, learned about estimating on number lines and also how to use <, > and = to compare and order numbers within 20. Next week, we will be moving on to additon and subtraction within 20. The y2s have also concluded their shape unit, we finished off by sorting 3D shapes and also repeating patterns using 2D and 3D shapes. On Thursday, we began our new unit, all about money. We have explored pence and counting pounds using coins and notes.

In English, we have been investigating past and present tense. We were given a selection of words which we had to put into pairs to show the past and present form. We then looked at how most words will usually have '-ed' on the end of them to show they are in the past tense but not always. We've looked at the many common words we use that do not follow the rule, e.g is and was; tell and told; go and went etc. On Thursday, we practised using present and past tense to describe parts of our story, 'The Dark' by Lemony Snicket. In our handwriting, we have been focusing on the letter p and we form it correctly with lead ins and lead outs.

In Science, we have been thinking about what humans; their needs and wants. We were each given a selection of pictures and had to decide whether it was a necessity or a want. As long as the children could justify why they had chosen it as a need or a want, they could be allowed it. We then moved on to thinking about our pets and what they need. The children have written a non-chronological report in science explaining what their pets need and why.

In PSHE, we thought about falling outs with people we love. We talked about how we can manage these uncomfortable situations in a safe way.

Have a lovely weekend,
