Greys 24th March

Date: 23rd Mar 2023 @ 1:31pm

In maths, the year 2s have been continuing their learning of money - recognising place value when writing in pounds and pence, and how we can make amounts of money in different ways. The y1s have begun exploring addition and subtraction within 20. We have been using primarily ten frames with counters but have also looked at how we can use number lines to jump forward and jump backwards. As a class we have been orally practising and testing each other on our number bonds to 20.

In English, the year 1s have created a storyboard of our story 'The Dark'. The children have begun using this to retell the story in their own words (a narrative recount), focusing on the use of capital letters, full stops, conjunctions (and, because, so) and adjectives to add detail and engage the reader. The year 2s have taken a slightly different journey, imitating the story of the 'The Dark' to create a character with their own fears which is then overcome in a way of their choice. The children first planned their story before beginning the writing process at the end of the week.

In phonics, the year 1s are currently reviewing all of their sounds learned this term. In year 2, they have been looking at words ending with /sion/ e.g. television.

In art, we have continued our watercolour journey inspired by Emma Burleigh. The children were given A3 paper and encouraged to use a variety of different techniques to see how the colours changed on the paper.

In PSHE, we have been working on our team work skills. We were given a selection of shapes along with a tangram and were tasked with creating the same shape as what appeared on the tangram. We discussed how we can manage issues that may arise when working as a team and how to do so in a respectful manner.

In PE on Monday with Mrs Elson, it was raining heavily outside so we enjoyed some calming kids yoga instead. It was so good for our breathing, balancing and stretching.

In music, Mrs Fowler has been teaching us to play the recorder, we are beginning to grasp the basic notes: A, B, C and G.

Have a lovely weekend, one more week to go!
