Greys class 13th November

Date: 13th Nov 2020 @ 3:53pm

This week has been an exciting week, as we have decided to go ahead with the
annual Nativity play. It will, however, be a little different this year in that we will
not be able to have an audience, but further details regarding how we will do this
and a date will follow over the next few weeks.

We spent Wednesday morning reading through the play, practising speaking in
loud clear voices and singing. Then on Thursday morning we were very excited
to finally find out what character we would be. Costume letters will be sent out
next week along with lines to practise at home.

On Monday in Literacy we talked about the fireworks that we had seen and
heard at the weekend and wrote our own Fireworks sense poems. We then read
a story called Lila and the secret of rain and created our own story maps, wrote
our own beginnings of the story and reenacted various scenes form the story. On
Monday we will then pretend to be Lila and write a diary entry.

In Maths the Year 1s have been adding and subtracting using their knowledge of
number bonds, whilst the Year 2s have been subtracting 1 digit numbers before
moving on to adding 2 digit numbers using a variety of resources and the column
method.

In whole class reading we read Stubby, a true story of friendship by Michael
Foreman, which told the true story of a little dog in World War 1. We all
absolutely loved this story and it gave us a better understanding of what
Remembrance Day means.

On Wednesday afternoon we held our Remembrance Day service on zoom in
which we sang Peace Perfect Peace and it was a really lovely service.

In Art we learned about William Morris and tried to create our own designs using his style. We drew our designs, then made our printing block, before using it with paint to create our final masterpiece.

We tested different materials in Science on Monday to see which were magnetic and which weren't.

You will have received by now a parent guide via school spider and your Spelling
Shed logins, which should have come home with the children today. I will still list
the weekly spellings on the blog, should you wish to write them down to practise
them as well. Spelling Shed will enable the children to practise their spellings in a
fun interactive way. Another website which you might find useful for this is
https://www.spellingtraining.com/. If you have any questions regarding this
please do not hesitate to get in touch.

homework section on School spider and is as follows, Our new topic is entitled
Where do the leaves go to in Winter? Throughout this topic we will be looking at
seasonal change, particularly at the weather. Over the next week I would like you
to complete a weather diary, which can be found in the homework section of
school spider.

A few reminders;
Can you please ensure that children have a coat in school every day, we will need
to practice the songs for the play and this has to be done outside, so as the
weather is getting colder they may also want gloves.

GoRead! - Can you please mark when your child has completed their reading
book to avoid any confusion.

Have a lovely weekend!
