Greys class 13th September

Date: 13th Sep 2019 @ 3:14pm

Greys class have been reading The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse this week. We pretended to be Toby Town Mouse and wrote postcards home describing our visit to the countryside. We reenacted the story in small groups and also wrote senses poems about life in the countryside.

In Maths the Year 2s have been looking at place value and have been adding and subtracting 10 and multiples of 10 to and from 2 digit numbers, whilst the Year 1s have been using cubes, dominoes and dice to add single digit numbers together. We have all revisited our number bonds and have been playing a variety of games counting in 2s and 10s.

In Topic we continued to compare the town and the country before moving on to learn all about the UK. We located the countries and capital cities in the UK and the surrounding seas. We also looked at their flags and symbols.

In PSHE we talked about having a postive attitude and how we can learn from experiences to recognise our strengths and to always try our best by having a positive attitude. We discussed the things that we found tricky and how we feel when we overcome these challenges.

In RE this term our topic is called ‘Myself’ and so we have begun to explore who we are, how we feel and just what makes us tick !.At the same time we are beginning to understand how others may feel differently from ourselves and to listen to each others’ thoughts and opinions. This week we discussed different ways we can greet each other and the different emotions we can feel when meeting someone for the first time.

In music we learnt that music has a pulse just like our own heartbeats. We practiced clapping to maintain a steady pulse. It was tricky at first to not get faster and faster, but gradually we were able to keep it steady and in time with each other by listening very carefully to the sound around us and watching the conductor. Next we moved onto listening to the rhythms within our own names that are created by the syllables we sound.

We practised our catching skills in PE, using bean bags and balls.

Our first spelling test is on Monday, so please make sure that you practise over the weekend and homework is due in on Tuesday.
