Greys class 16th October

Date: 16th Oct 2020 @ 12:48pm

Welcome to another weekly update from Greys class.

This week we have continued with our traditional tale theme and have gone Rapunzel crazy.

In our Reading lessons we have been reading the Bethan Woolvin version of Rapunzel and enjoyed comparing it to Hansel and Gretel written by Bethan and the traditional version of Rapunzel.

In Literacy we began the week by sequencing the story and then working in groups role playing the story. There were some very good actors and narrators who took their parts very seriously and it really helped us to remember the sequence of events. We also used different adjectives to describe the setting of the story and are looking forward to next week when we will be exploring the characters in more detail.

In Maths the Year 1s have been working on their number bonds to 10 and have used a variety of resources to help them, and understanding that to write them in sequence makes it a lot easier to remember them all. The Year 2s have been using their number bonds to 10 to help them work out their number bonds to 100.

In Phonics the Year 1s have been investigating alternative spellings of different vowels whilst the Year 2s have worked on common exception words.

In DT we designed and labeled our houses ready to make next week. We began by drawing the house, then labeling it, before making a list of the materials and tools that we will need to put our plans into action on Monday.

Computing was very exciting this week as we began to explore the keyboard. We used https://www.typingclub.com/ to help us get used to the different keys on the keyboard. Please feel free to log on and practise at home.

In Science we made houses from straw, sticks and bricks to test which was the strongest material and are looking forward to next week when we make our own houses to see if they are even stronger.

Homework this weekend

Next term we will be writing letters in Literacy and it would be really useful if the children could learn their address, including their postcode. If they do already know this, perhaps they could practice writing it and spelling it correctly in their neatest handwriting.

Timestables continue for Year 2 on Sumdog. If anyone is having difficulty logging on please do let me know.

Please note, the spelling test on Monday will be for the spellings given on last Friday’s (9th) blog.

The spellings to learn for next week are as follows, and will be tested next Friday 23rd October. In future all spelling tests will be on a Friday to hopefully avoid any confusion.
