Greys class 17th September

Date: 17th Sep 2021 @ 2:55pm

This week in Greys class we have continued our journey with Naughty Bus and we created some beautiful storyboards of the story by drawing pictures of the main events and writing sentences to describe what happened in each picture. We then used that information to write a diary entry, with us taking on the role of Naughty Bus, and recapped the days of the week by detailing what we did each day. We finished the week by creating our own versions of Naughty Bus as a night bus, using the storyboard technique that we had used earlier in the week and we were very innovative with our stories.

In Maths we continued our work with place value and tens and ones. The Year 1s used this to help us find out 1 more and 1 less than a number and the Year 2s 10 more and 10 less. We have been practising counting in 2s and 10s this week as part of our warm up activities in Maths. On Friday in Maths we had a lot of fun using the ipads . The Year 1s practised their number bonds and addition to 10 on https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button and the Year 2s practised their 2 timestables on https://www.timestables.co.uk/. They had to get full marks before they could move onto the next stage. Please continue to practise these daily at home Year 2.

We read Oi! Get off our train! in our reading sessions and predicted what might happen in the story and discussed the feelings and thoughts of the characters. We learned about the endangered animals from the story and why they are endangered.

The Year 2s have been practising spelling words beginning with gn and kn, whilst the Year 1s have been working on cvcc words and practising their sounding and blending of the sounds that they have learned to date.

In our Geography lesson we found out what the UK is and the names of its four countries and capital cities. We used a key to label the countries, capital cities and seas around the UK. Please continue to ask the children at home what they are as they are doing so well in learning them and are keen to share their new found knowledge.

Today we learned about The Giant’s Causeway and reenacted the story. We also found out about gaelic football and had a go at some Irish dancing.

In our PSHE lesson we talked about how important it is to have a positive attitude and to celebrate achievements. In Art we learned about the artist, Gunta Stolzl who was a master in weaving and textile design and we are looking forward to weaving with paper next week.

Many thanks to those of you who have sent photos in of the children reading with their buddies at home, they are now on display in our reading area in the classroom. Please continue to send photos in if you haven’t already done so.
