Greys class 18th February

Date: 17th Feb 2022 @ 9:09pm

Well, the final day of another term is upon us and it’s hard to believe that we are already half way through the year. We have had an extremely busy term filled with lots of fun, learning and laughter.

We have had a very exciting week with a school trip on Tuesday and DT Day on Wednesday.

Our trip to Science Oxford was amazing! The children were able to explore all types of scientific activities and challenges and even the adults had fun trying to solve some of the challenges. If you have chance to visit during the holidays or at weekends they are open for family days and visits. https://scienceoxford.com/ Many thanks to Mrs Edwards, Mrs Cima and Mrs Johnston for their help on the day.

On DT day we began by trying different ways of joining materials and had a go at glueing, stapling and using safety pins. We then designed our own puppets based on the story of Little Red Riding Hood. We thought carefully about the materials that we would use and labelled our designs to ensure that our finished product would match our original design. We then joined our fabrics and decorated our puppets. At the end of the day we thought about what we had enjoyed doing the most, what we found tricky and something different we would like to do next time.

In Maths the Year 1s have been measuring in centimetres and comparing lengths as to whether they are shorter or longer. The Year 2s have been measuring in metres and comparing lengths using centimetres and metres.

On Monday we changed the characters in Little Red Riding Hood and planned our own versions of the story with those characters. Then on Thursday we wrote our stories in full. We have been amazed at how many different versions of the story we have read over the last couple of weeks.

We finished our final  computing lesson of the term by programming the beebots as we listened to the story of The Three Little Pigs. We had a story board of the characters and settings and had to move the beebot to the correct place when that character or setting was read out in the story. It was a lot trickier than we thought, and we have become pretty good at programming the beebots and the lady at Science Oxford was amazed at our beebot skills when she set some beebot challenges for us.

Over the holidays please continue to read, but above all have fun and enjoy the break.
