Greys class 18th June
Date: 18th Jun 2021 @ 1:44pm
This week in Greys class we began the week by planting beans in a bag. We hung them up in the classroom and are having great fun coming in every day checking whether they have started to grow or not. It’s quite exciting as we are hoping that we will be able to see the beans start to sprout out of seed as this is something that we can’t see when we bury them in the soil. We watched a short video of what happens to a broad bean as it grows from seed to bean and drew pictures of ours labeling them and predicting the life cycle of our beans.
Mr Sones read us a Percy the Park keeper story entitled, The Secret Path and then we designed our own secret gardens in Art before using those designs in Literacy to write a senses poem about our secret gardens. He also read us a story called Growing Frogs and we wrote acrostic poems about Frogs.
In Maths the Year 2s finished their work on time, please, please continue practising to tell the time to the nearest quarter hour on an analogue clock. They then moved onto mass and measuring in grams. The Year 1s have been partitioning numbers into 10s and 1s and then comparing numbers.
We have been reading a lovely story in our shared reading lessons called Grandpa’s Garden and our class read for this term is The Enchanted Wood by Enid Blyton.
In PE we performed an exercise in throwing different objects such as howlers and bean bags. We used a technique of accurate throwing, starting with a correct stance and noted how aerodynamic howlers should travel further than a bean bag. There were some excellent results that showed improvement during the course of the lesson.
The children are thoroughly enjoying the book reviews and please accept my apologies, as last week I forgot to list the books that were reviewed, so I shall detail those and this week’s below.
