Greys class 1st March

Date: 28th Feb 2019 @ 8:24pm

Welcome back to a new term! I can't believe we're already halfway through the year!

This week we wrote our non fiction reports about elephant's trunks and spent time describing their uses and what they looked like. We created interesting headings, sub headings and tried to use adjectives and conjunctions to make our writing more interesting. We finished our reports off with labelled diagrams complete with captions. We are looking forward to seeing who will be Big Write Champion of the week.

On Tuesday we kicked started our Materials topic with a day at the River and Rowing Museum where we investigated what different items were made of and named a variety of materials. We identified their properties and talked about reversable and irreversible changes. We designed casts for medals and then mixed a powder and liquid to pour in, which by the end of the day had turned into a solid. We brought our medals back to school and painted them a very sparkly gold. In the afternoon we explored items in the galleries looking for different materials and Daisy even spotted someone she knew in one of the photos on display.

In Maths the Year 1s have been looking at place value and ordering numbers whilst the Year 2s have been looking at fractions of amounts using 1/2 and 1/4.

The Year 1s have spent the week revising the Phase 5 sounds that they have learned to date and the Year 2s have been working on the /o/ sound spelt with an a after w and qu qhich has proved rather tricky.

We have our Church service next Wednesday and after listening to the story of Jesus going into the desert for 40 days and nights we decided to make our own Lenten promses, which will be on display from next Wednesday. It will be interesting to see how many of us manage to keep them. Should you wish to practise our song at home in preparation for Wednesday please do so, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Od_qFJ2g50

In PE on Thursday we began a term of folk dancing and in French we are starting to learn the names of different foods.
