Greys class 1st October

Date: 30th Sep 2021 @ 8:46am

Greys class have had such an exciting week this week.

On Tuesday we went on our first school trip of the year to Brooklands Museum. It may have taken us an hour to get there but it was well and truly worth every minute. Before we even went into the museum the sound of the children’s voices when they saw the mini replica of Concorde at the entrance and a train whizzing past on a nearby track was an indication that it was going to be a great day. We had a tour of the different aeroplanes and even managed to sit in Concorde, some of us were hoping that it was going to take off. We went in the Aircraft factory and used our cards to clock in and out and went to the different workshops practising the skills needed to make aircrafts. After lunch we went to the Bus Museum and we could have stayed in there all day! We went on a variety of buses and some of us even managed to have a go at driving one and dressing up as a driver or conductor. We saw the different bicycles, motor bikes and cars throughout the ages and particularly loved the racing cars. It was a very busy day and huge thanks must go to Mr Tanner for driving the minibus and to Mrs Edwards and Mrs Johnston who came along as our helpers for the day.

As if that wasn’t enough excitement for one week, the following afternoon Mr Clinkard brought his motorbike to  show us. He has had the bike for 42 years and it was amazing! We asked him so many questions about it and were particularly excited when we saw him and Mrs Clinkard ride around the Common.

After Mr Clinkard had gone we were so inspired by his visit that we drew sketches of the bike and labelled the different parts.

Continuing with our transport theme we watched a video of early attempts at flying https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN-ZktmjIfE, which the children found hilarious  and then listened to a story about the Wright Brothers. We finished this lesson by creating a timeline of different types of aircraft.

In Maths we have been working on ordinal numbers and counting in 2s forwards and backwards from any given number. On Friday mornings the Year 2s currently practise their times tables and the Year 1s their number bonds.

In Literacy we wrote a recount of our trip to Brooklands, focusing on when we should use a capital letter and full stop and also wrote some very descriptive Autumn senses poems.

In PSHE we thought about the qualities people need to do different jobs and wrote about what we would like to do when we grow up and why we feel we would be suited to that role.

This week I have managed to listen to nearly all the children read individually and would like to say a big thank you to those who are listening to their children read on a daily basis as it makes such a difference.

Book review this week was Elle who brought in a lovely book called The Little Book of Garden Bird songs, complete with sound buttons.

Book reviews next week are Grace, Holly and Ryder.

You may download the templates from the homework section in School Spider or create your own.
