Greys class 22nd October

Date: 22nd Oct 2021 @ 3:08pm

This week in Greys class we continued learning about steam engines. We drew a steam engine and then carefully labelled it, we identified questions, conjunctions and time conjunctions in an extract about steam engines and wrote a list of facts that we had found out. We finished the week off by writing our own explanation texts about steam engines.

On Tuesday we had our RE day which was great fun! We talked about when we first came into the world and why we were given our names. Lots of us didn’t know the answers so we wrote some questions to ask our parents and brought the answers back the following day to share with everyone. We talked about what we like doing in and out of school and what we like to do as a family. We brainstormed different times and festivals throughout the year that we celebrate with friends and and family and what is important to us. We read Sad Book by Michael Rosen and The Selfish Giant by Oscar Wilde and described how the characters and we felt at different points of  the story. On Thursday we got creative and used different resources to express how we feel when creating a picture.

In Maths we have been revisiting our number bonds and using a systematic way of organising the numbers to ensure that we found all the bonds for each family. The Year 2s have also been finding 10 more and 10 less than a given 2 digit number. Well done to all the Year 2s who have been practising your times tables and related division facts. Friday mornings are proving very successful in putting all of your hard work into practise. I have updated those books that were handed in as to what you now need to be working on and have set the appropriate Sumdog challenges.

We finished our term off by reflecting  on what we have enjoyed most about this term and designing our own form of transport for the future.

Please continue to read over the holidays and I have also set Sumdog challenges for you all, which don’t need to be completed until the end of the first week back at school.

Many thanks to Charlie, Max and Lara for your book reviews this week; The Magic Finger, Where the Wild things are  and The Highway Rat..

Book reviews for the first week back at school will be Margot, Taylor and Jack. Templates can be found in the homework section on School Spider or you may create your own.

Thank you to all the children who have been absolutely amazing this term and to all the parents for your continued support. Have a wonderful half term break and we will see you back in school on Tuesday November 2nd.
