Greys class 23rd April

Date: 23rd Apr 2021 @ 2:58pm

Welcome back to our Summer term!

We have had an exciting first week back seeing all our friends and back into school life. We are now eating packed lunches on the Common, Springwood class took part in an active leaders course and have been providing us with lots of different activities at lunchtimes and on Tuesday a hot air balloon paid us a visit. What a week it has been!

We welcomed Mr Sones to Greys class as he is training to be a teacher and will be in class all week except on Wednesdays. He will be with us until June 24th.

In Literacy this week we have been reading a story called Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman. We enjoyed describing what Grace looks like and her character. We then read the sequel to this story entitled Grace & family, which told the story of Grace going ro visit her Papa in The Gambia and we wrote postcards home pretending to be Grace describing the favourite parts of our trip.

In Maths the Year 2s have continued their work with fractions and have been looking at unit, non unit and equivalent fractions. We are continuing to practice times tables in class daily, each child knows the level that they are on should they wish to practice them at home, which would be a great help. The Year 1s have had a revision week in Maths and have been adding and subtracting numbers using number lines.

After our visit from the hot air balloon we all drew the balloon and then thought of adjectives to describe it. We then had to put those adjectives into sentences and use conjunctions to extend them. Some of us were even editing our sentences to try to improve them and amend any mistakes. We then thought of lots of questions that we had about hot air balloons, some of these questions we googled to find the answer, whilst others we directed at Mr Sones, who has been lucky enough to have been in a hot air balloon. In the afternoon we made our own suncatcher hot air balloons for display on the classroom window.

In our topic lesson we used the ipads to research key events that have happened since 1953 and found 4 and put them in order onto a timeline. We also researched the types of dresses and football strips that people would have worn in the 1950s and used those ideas to design our own.
