Greys class 26th April

Date: 28th Apr 2019 @ 1:22pm

Welcome back to the Summer term!

It was lovely to see you all refreshed and raring to go after our Easter break.

This week Greys class have been using money in Maths. The Year 1s have been adding amounts bridging 10 and also adding 10, 20 and 30 to 2 digit numbers. The Year 2s have been adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers and then on Friday used the partitioning method to add two 2 digit numbers together.

In Literacy we read Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman and wrote character descriptions of Grace, describing what she looked like, her personality and the things that she liked doing. We then talked about how Grace's Grandmother came to live in England from Trinidad and other people that we know who had migrated to the UK. We discussed what they might have missed from the home they were leaving behind, what they were looking forward to and how they might be feeling about their new home. We then thought of somewhere that we would like to migrate to and wrote a diary entry describing our feelings and emotions.

In Phonics the Year 1s have been adding s and es to nouns to make them plural, whilst the Year 2s have been adding the suffix -tion to words.

This term in Art we will be focussing on portraits. We will be looking at the different techniques of portrait drawings of famous and local artists. This week we learned how to mix different skin tones.

In Music we continued to compose our own tunes and in PE we had our first tennis lesson of the year on Thursday afternoon.

Our topic for this term is " How have Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela helped to make the world a better place?" Over the course of the next few weeks we will be looking at individuals who have helped to make our world a better place. This week we leaned about slavery and how William Wilberforce helped to end the British Slave Trade.

Show and Tell this term will be about individuals who have helped to make the world a better place.
