Greys Class 26th May

Date: 25th May 2023 @ 8:27am

Another term done!

Firstly, I'd like to say a massive well done to the year 2s for their incredibly hard work in their KS1 SATs. Whilst we keep them very lowkey in the infants, they've showcased their learning fabulously and I couldn't be more proud of their resilience and perseverance through each assessments. Well done year 2!

In maths, the year 1s have been continuing their learning of multiplication and division, specifically finding equal groups, adding equal groups, exploring arrays and doubling. The year 2s have concluded their learning of fractions, finding the whole and looking at unit and non-unit fractions. Next term will kickstart with both year groups looking at time - if you have any analogue clocks or watches lying around, now's the time to get them out!

In English, the children have begun recreating their own version of the Three Little Pigs. They firstly had to choose three new materials: a weak one, a slightly stronger one and the strongest one. They then used this to recreate a story map using their new chosen materials and have begun rewriting the story in their own words. They have been tasked with using as much detail as possible and including conjunctions to link sentences together.

In Geography, the children have looked at where food comes from and how it has to travel from different parts of the world to end up in our Supermarkets. We also looked at food that is nationally from different parts of the country (i.e the Cornish Pasty). We then looked at the process for how cheese and milk is made before correctly sequencing the stages of bread production from seed to shop.

In Science last week, the children began investigating different materials and whether they were: hard, soft, shiny, transparent, opaque etc. This week, we thought about why certain materials are chosen for different products because of their properties.

In Music, Mrs Fowler has focused this term on teaching the children to play recorders and glockenspiels. She let the children choose which one they prefer and they have begun practising and rehearsing a song.

Have a lovely week's holiday in the glorious sunshine!

Mrs W.
