Greys class 27th November 2020

Date: 27th Nov 2020 @ 8:51am

Welcome to another week in Greys class!

This week we have been reading One Winter’s Day in whole class reading and discussed how the characters in the story showed compassion in different ways. It also gave us an opportunity to explore the type of weather that winter and a storm can bring.

In Literacy we read Winter’s Child by Angela McAllister, which is a lovely book about how winter can bring both joy and sadness, with some beautiful illustrations. We looked at creating expanded noun phrases by describing the characters and settings in the story, some of us even used some very descriptive similes to enhance our writing. We finished the week off by writing senses poems about Winter.

The Year 2s have been working with money this week, whilst also revising some of their 3d shapes along with Year 1. Please feel free to practise counting different amounts of money and identifying 3d shapes at home.

On Monday we brainstormed ideas in groups as to what happened in each season. Many thanks, to all of you who completed the homework and sent it through. I have printed them all off and we will share them as a class and the children will keep them here in school with their topic books.

In PSHE we discussed how we can sometimes have unhappy or sad feelings and thought about strategies we use to help us feel better when we have these feelings.

We have been busy practising the play every day and thank you to all those of you who have helped with lines and listening to the songs. Homework this weekend is to continue practising any lines you may have and the songs, it is making a huge difference, so thank you all! We will be practising next week without scripts.

Further to my email dated 20th November we will need all costumes in by Friday 4th December please.

The children are absolutely loving our daily class read The Christmasaurus and I think it will be on quite a few of their Christmas lists along with Hotel Flamingo which was another of their favourites.

Each week I would like one child to do a book review and then share their review with their classmates. I have attached a template to the main homework page should you wish to use it or please feel free to create your own. It should just contain a brief description of what the book is about and what they liked about it. It can be a school reading book as others might like to read it or one they’ve read at home which might encourage others to borrow from the library or put on their wish list. It will need to be handed in by the following Friday, which is when they will share it with the class. We will go in alphabetical order to avoid any confusion, which means this week's book review goes to Islay. If you have any questions regarding this please do get in touch.

Spellings this week to be tested next Friday 4th December are as follows;

Can I please remind you to make sure that the children need to bring a water bottle to school every day and continue to read daily where possible, ensuring that you mark on GoRead when the book has been completed to avoid any confusion in class.

Have a lovely weekend!
