Greys class 28th February

Date: 27th Feb 2020 @ 5:12pm

Welcome back to the fourth term of the year!

We have had a busy start to the term in Greys class. Thank you to all of you who managed to complete the weather diaries over half term. We have been watching daily weather forecasts this week and got rather excited when we saw that snow was forecast, albeit rather short lived! We were so inspired, by the variety of our weather diaries and our daily weather forecasts that we decided to have a go at making and presenting our own forecasts. We watched a few different videos first and thought carefully about what to include and how best to present the information.

In Literacy, we began the week by reading Mr Wolf’s Pancakes and pretended to be Mr Wolf, and wrote a list of ingredients that we would need to make pancakes. The following day we wrote our own recipes for Mr Wolf’s Pancakes and included different verbs and adjectives in our writing, some of us even included a variety of suffixes and commas.

We the read Lost and Found and wrote similes to describe the character’s adventure, before being introduced to synonyms, where we thought of similar words to sad and delighted to describe the characters’ feelings and finished the week off writing a diary entry from the perspective of the little boy.

In Maths the Year 1s have been adding and subtracting single digits to and from a 2 digit number before moving on to adding 10,20 and 30 to a 2 digit number. The Year 2s have been looking at multiplication and division and using arrays, and beaded lines to help them solve a variety of problems.

In music this week we looked further into how we can incorporate tempo and different dynamics into our music making. We looked at the story of Little Red Riding Hood and explored how we could describe the characters though the sounds we made. We asked questions about what tempi we should use to describe Little Red Riding Hood skipping through the woods and would it be a similar sound to that of the Wolf ? Would it be fast or slow, loud or quiet? Next time we will develop our composing skills to create some descriptive music to tell a story that our class orchestra can play.

In Computing we will be looking at digital imagery this term. We began by creating a story plan in preparation for next week when we will be photographing our character in their settings.

Some of the Year 2 boys took part in a football tournament on Thursday afternoon and had a fabulous time. They played well, showing great teamwork and sportsmanship at all times and were a credit to our school.
