Greys class 28th January

Date: 27th Jan 2022 @ 2:56pm

This week has been a very exciting week in Greys class with our trip to Milestones on Wednesday. The children were so very excited, especially about the prospect of visiting the sweetie shop. We had such a lovely day learning all about toys and games from the past. We were put into four groups and began by playing hopscotch, dominoes, jacks, tiddlywinks and some old fashioned games like Grandma’s footsteps and Simon says and played The Farmer’s in his Den. We then had a short break and sorted some different toys into a timeline ranging from the 1940s to the 2000s, we explored the teddy bear museum, sorted different toys into a variety of categories and also used lego and wooden blocks to attempt different challenges. It was such a fun-filled morning. After lunch we went to the sweetie shops with our ration books and chose our sweets to take home with us and then went into the arcade to play some of the old fashioned games, before having a final walk around the museum. It really was a great day and I know that many children are keen to go back and explore Milestones even more with their families.

In Literacy we have been reading Lost and Found and we wrote some lovely descriptions of the settings and pretended to be the boy in the story and wrote sentences describing how we felt at different points of the story. We also wrote diary entries about the story and then wrote a recount about our trip to Milestones.

In Maths the Year 2s have been dividing by 2, 5 and 10, whilst the Year 1s have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

In our computing lesson this week we worked in teams and created videos demonstrating how to use beebots. Mrs Hawkins and Mrs Clinkard were particularly impressed with the videoing and presentation of the videos and some children excelled at multi tasking and videoed, commentated and directed! It was amazing to watch!

We mixed primary colours to create ‘hot’ and ‘cold’ colours in a seascape ‘sunrise over the Sea’ in Art this week. We looked at some paintings by JMW Turner focusing on how he merged his colours, so we decided to try and replicate his style. We thought about how to place the different colours and used different ways of making marks with the paint by using thick brushes and dabbing with tissues .

Thank you to those of you who brought in book reviews this week.

Next week’s book reviews are Molly, Rudi and Freya.

Homework

Reading - Please continue to read for 10 minutes daily, those of you who are doing so are making great progress, so well done!

Maths - Please practise for 10 minutes daily.

Year 1 - Sumdog challenges have been set.

Year 2 - The sumdog challenge that I have set this week is purely 2s,5s amd 10s multiplication and division. Whilst there are several children who have gone beyond this, our Maths lessons over the last two weeks have shown that we can all benefit from a recap week focussing primarily on these. However, should you wish to continue to practise the times table that you are on in addition to this, then please feel free to do so.

Have a lovely weekend.
