Greys Class 29th April

Date: 29th Apr 2022 @ 4:55pm

Hello everyone!

What a fabulous first week we've had together. We began Monday by spending some time getting to know one another. Mrs White shared with the children all of the things she likes and that makes her, her. The children then had a go at sharing what makes them unique, including all of their different likes.

In maths, we have been learning about statistics, creating and interpreting both tally charts and pictograms with a key of 1:1.

In English, we have begun reading the Bog Baby, firstly making predictions about the text before reading and drawing upon inferences to help make our predictions more accurate. We have spend the last two days, sequencing events from the story and writing about them using time conjunctions and adjectives to help us include detail.

In Spellings, the year 2s have been investigating suffixes and adding -ful, -ness and -ment to the end of root words. Mrs White also introduced us to a dice game, which has us practising our spellings in all sorts of silly but visual ways!

Our new topic for the next few weeks is all about our local area. We have considered how you determine whether a place can be referred to as a village, town or city. We also looked at life by the seaside and what it might be like to live on an island, such as the Isles of Scilly!

It would be rude of me to not mention the new additions to our class - Rory and Chester, Mrs White's guinea pigs, who come into school on different days throughout the week. The children have loved having some guinea pig time and spending some time getting to know them. They are already a much loved addition to the class and the animals certainly know it from all the strokes they've had!

Finally, I am currently unable to assign Sumdog homework as there were issues with setting me up an account. For this week's homework please can children ensure they read every evening and that Year 2s are practising their times tables. These will be essential as they move into the juniors.

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend everyone,

Mrs White
