Greys class 2nd July

Date: 1st Jul 2021 @ 4:39pm

As we have been learning about what type of birds we might find in Peppard we had a very exciting start to our day on Tuesday with a visit from Feathers and Fur. Sadie brought a barn owl, buzzard, kestrel and peregrine falcon to meet us and we discovered so many fascinating facts. It was lovely to be able to see the birds up close and are hopefully going to try and see if we can spot any of them around Peppard. We then wrote fact files about our favourite bird and Mrs Hawkins was amazed at how many facts we had remembered.

In Art the children were asked to create a fantasy bird of paradise . They had to include a beak, legs, eyes, feet and tail but the rest was up to them. The only limit being, their imagination. They first planned how they were going to make these features look and then incorporate their ideas into their final piece.

In PE on Wednesday we played rounders and we had another exciting tennis lesson the following morning and once again practised throwing catching and hitting the ball.

In Maths the Year 1s have been identifying coins and notes and working with money, whilst the Year 2s have been working on capacity and volume, measuring in millilitres and litres. They also revisited adding 2 digit numbers.

We read The Owl and the Pussy Cat poem by Edward Lear on Monday and answered some questions about it. We then split into groups to learn it and then recited it and acted it out in front of each other.

Homework

Next week we began our new topic Why would a dinosaur not make a good pet? in which we will be learning about dinosaurs and all living things and their habitats.

This weekend I would like you to choose a dinosaur to create a fact file about. You will need to describe its appearance, habitat, diet and any fascinating facts. This can be presented in any form you wish and you will share your chosen creature and facts next week in class with your classmates. If we could have them in school by Tuesday, that would be wonderful.

Reading

Please continue to read daily where possible and update GoRead! Mrs Clinkard and myself have been listening to the children read individually this week and for those who are reading daily they have made great progress. Whilst reading, please remember to ask questions and check their understanding of the text and any unfamiliar vocabulary. Can we also request that all children have their reading books in school each day.
