Greys class 2nd October 2020

Date: 2nd Oct 2020 @ 3:39pm

This week has been an exciting week in Greys class with the Henley Literary Festival events and we particularly enjoyed listening to Russell and Laura Brand reading The Tiger who came to Tea, it was most entertaining! We also listened to Katinka’s tail and Mog the Forgetful cat.

In Maths the Year 2s have been recapping on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and then progressed to 3s. The Year 1s have been ordering numbers from smallest to greatest and vice versa and looking at ordinal numbers. If you would like to practise this at home it would be super helpful.

In music we started learning how to make rhythmic patterns using plastic cups.

The children said that they would enjoy practising at home, so I said we could put this link onto the website.

In Literacy we have been finishing our Henley information booklets. Thursday was National Poetry Day so we learned the rhyme One, two buckle my shoe and practised acting it out which was a lot of fun.

In Computing we continued to practice clicking and dragging and rotating objects on sketch.

Our zoom assemblies began this week and we were lucky enough to be Mr Steele’s helpers with his first story.

Next week we begin our new topic Which materials should the Three Little Pigs have used to build their house?  So, we are very excited to be visiting the River and Rowing Musuem on Monday to take part in a materials workshop. The children will need to be dropped off at the museum between 9:30am and 9:55am and be collected at 2:45pm from the museum. They will need a packed lunch, coat and water bottle. Can you please ensure that you have replied to the email to give consent. If you have any questions regarding the trip please do let me know.

Thank you so much to all of you for your homework last week. We all found it very interesting to learn out about all the different types of jobs that people in Henley do.

It has been highly noticeable that many children have been reading a lot more this week and are enjoying earning their gems on Go Read. Thank you to you all for updating the reading log along the way.

Year 1 weekly spellings

Yesterday evening you should have received an email via School Spider detailing a login for Sumdog. This is what we will be using for the children to practice their spellings. They will go live from 2:20pm on a Friday and I will be able to monitor their progress and accuracy throughout the week. The spellings will be words or letter sounds that we have been focusing on that week in our Phonics lessons. I will also provide you with the list of spellings, should you wish to practice them at home by getting your child to write them down. Several of the Year 2 parents have requested this and it is the way we did it last year, so if we use both methods then hopefully this will make learning the spellings easier for the children. If you have any questions regarding spellings please do get in touch.

Your spellings this week are;

toe

hoe

goes

key

keys

donkey

monkey

money

valley

jersey

Well done to all of the children who have been practising their spellings and times tables on Sumdog. If those of you that haven’t managed to log on yet could you please do so this week. If you are having difficulty accessing Sumdog please do let me know.

Your spellings this week are;
