Greys class 4th December

Date: 4th Dec 2020 @ 12:32pm

Welcome to another week in Greys class.

A big thank you to all of you who have helped the children learn their lines and songs for the play as it has meant that our week without scripts has gone remarkably well. We have been busy practising every day ready for next week when we will begin filming. Thank you so much to all of you who have also sent the costumes in, which all look fabulous, the children got very excited trying them all on.

On Wednesday we had our Advent service and Peppard class joined us in singing Little Donkey.

In Maths this week the year 1s have been continuing to investigate 2d and 3d shapes and the Year 2s have been adding amounts of pounds and pence, which they seem to have really enjoyed. Please encourage the children to have a play with any money you might have at home and add different amounts together or give them an amount and they can then show different ways that they could make that amount. The following website has some fun money games for them to practise on should they wish to do so. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/money and if the Year 1s would like to continue practising 2d and 3d shapes they can do so on https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/5-7-years/shapes.

In Literacy we began the week by making our Christmas lists, many of which included real dogs, iphone 12s and someone is even asking for a real horse! Rather than go down the real dog route a couple of young ladies have decided to ask for a remote control dog on a lead, so we did wonder if there might be a horse one as well! The following day we added adjectives to our requests and also used ‘because’ to explain why we wanted the items on our list. On Thursday we practiced writing our addresses and many of us had managed to remember them along with our postcodes so the adults in the room were very impressed. We wrote them down, remembering to use capital letters in the correct places and today we finally wrote our letters to Santa using our neatest handwriting and explaining to Santa why we felt we deserved the presents we were asking for.

In Topic we discussed the different ways that we can find out what the weather is going to be like on particular days and why it is important to know what the weather is going to be like. We then worked in groups planning our own weather forecasts before taking on the roles of weather presenters to present to our classmates.

Year 2 please continue to practice your 10 times tables and x10 facts on Sumdog and the test will be next Thursday. Once a child has scored 10 out of 10 3 weeks in a row they will be moved onto the next stage which is currently division facts for the 10 x tables. I will let the children know and they can then practise these at home. Once they score 10 out of 10 for 3 weeks in a row on these, they will move onto 2x tables. The app we use for testing in school is called Maths Pro and we use the Times table pro and Division pro should you wish to download it and let the children practice on this at home. Let me know if you have any questions.

Many thanks to Islay who did a great book review about The Penderwicks. This week it is Francesca’s turn to do the book review. The template can be found on the main homework section on School Spider or you can create your own.
