Greys class 6th March

Date: 6th Mar 2020 @ 3:20pm

This week in Maths the Year 1s have been adding single digits whilst bridging through 10 using counters, bead strings, beaded lines and landmarked lines. The Year 2s have been adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers to and from a 2 digit number.

In Literacy we learned all about Captain Robert Falcon Scott and used the skills we had learned the previous week to write diary entries pretending we were Captain Scott, this was quite tricky as we had to make sure that we stayed in character and wrote I and we instead of he and them.

We also wrote letters to Sunny the Meerkat or the Penguin from Lost & Found trying to persuade them to come and visit us in Henley.

In Computing we used the ipads to take photos of the characters from our story maps and made sure that our images weren’t blurry or too bright or dark. Next week we will be using editing skills to improve the photos that we have taken.

We researched a variety of extreme types of weather and then designed posters to stay safe in the sun. We wrote lists of items we would take to  hot and cold climates. Then we finished off our weather topic by using atlases to locate three hot countries and three cold ones using a map of the world to do so.

As the daffodils have started to bloom in our locality we drew pictures of them, selecting different types of pencils that we might like to use and then used water colours to mix the correct shades required to bring them to life.

Yesterday was World Book Day and we have enjoyed listening to different teachers come in and read us traditional tales this week. We were all very excited on Thursday dressed in our costumes and had a lot of fun doing a World Book Day scavenger hunt using the books in our classroom.

Recently we have really enjoyed discovering and sharing new books. The library in Greys class and the book reviews that we have completed for homework have enabled us to do this.

We have now decided that every week, one child will have the opportunity to complete a book review of a book that they have recently enjoyed and would like to share with their classmates. They will then present this to their classmates (Show and Tell style) the following week. Similarly to Show and Tell this will be on a rota system and will begin with the Year 2s. A book review form will be sent home when it is your child’s turn in their orange homework book on a Thursday and will then be presented the following Tuesday.

Should you have any questions regarding this please do not hesitate to come and speak with me.

Show and Tell next week

Tuesday – Thea (book review)

Wednesday – Josh

Thursday – Esther

Friday  - Madeleine

Have a lovely weekend!
