Greys class 7th January 2022

Date: 7th Jan 2022 @ 3:29pm

Happy New Year to you all! I hope you all had a wonderful Christrmas and New Year and managed to spend some quality time with your loved ones.

A shorter week this week, but we have still managed to pack quite a bit in and have had some fun along the way.

We began the week by sharing our holiday news and talking about New Year. We reflected on last year and what we had enjoyed and thought about what we are looking forward to in 2022, before making our New Year resolutions.

Our new topic is Why can’t a meerkat live in the North Pole? Within this topic we will be comparing hot and cold climates and looking at the different types of weather in the UK and worldwide.

In Maths we have been working with arrays and repeated addition, then the Year 2s progressed to working with the multiplication symbol.

Our current class read is Around the World in 80 Days and in Literacy we read Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett. We began by making a list of questions that we wanted answered and then talked about how Sunny’s emotions changed throughout the course of the story and finished that session off by reviewing the book, which we all agreed was fantastic! We then recapped on verbs, nouns, adjectives and adverbs and sorted different words into those categories, before answering questions to describe some of the settings in the story. We then read our settings out and the rest of the class had to guess which setting we were describing. We have also done a few meerkat dances to add to the meerkat madness that is currently in Greys class.

In Art we drew meerkats step by step ready to go onto our hot landscape display and the following day we drew a variety of animals that we might find in the North or South Poles to go onto our cold landscape.
