Greys class 9th July

Date: 9th Jul 2021 @ 3:26pm

This week in Greys class we have been reading Tyrannosaurus Drip by Julia Donaldson. We practised a technique called echo reading, whereby Mrs Hawkins read the text as we followed. At each point of punctuation we echoed her reading using similar expression and intonation. We then practised this in pairs and by Friday had become experts in it. We began the week predicting what would happen in the story and then after the story had finished, we also identified the different types of punctuation, rhyme and past and present tense.

Using the same story for our Literacy lessons we pretended to be explorers hunting for dinosaurs and created a list of what we would need to pack explaining why. Many of us used adjectives and alliteration in our descriptions. We then wrote letters to Comp’s two naughty sisters, giving them advice as to how we felt they should behave and there was some very good advice indeed!

In Maths the Year 1s have been telling the time to the half hour and trying to understand the concept of how long a second, minute and hour is. The Year 2s finished their unit of measurement with temperature and have spent the rest of the week revising adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers.

We had a bumper DT week this week whereby we made moving monsters. We began the week not even knowing what a lever, pivot and linkage was to understanding those terms and putting them into action. We were very pleased with the finished articles.

Thank you so much to those of you who supported the children in learning the words to ‘Reach’ last week it has made our jobs so much easier and the children are loving it! They will be performing it with the rest of the school at the Leaver’s assembly.

Thank you also to last week’s dinosaur factfiles. The children were very excited to share them with their friends and it was lovely to see so many different dinosaurs presented in so many different ways.

Book review this week was Taylor, who reviewed Where the wild things are.

Next week book reviewers are Willow, Molly and Amelie. Templates can be found in the homework section of School spider or please feel free to create your own.
