Greys class November 6th

Date: 6th Nov 2020 @ 3:19pm

Welcome back to a new term!

It was lovely to see the children come back to school so full of stories of their half term break and eager to learn all about Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night.

We began the week pretending that we had a new job at a fireworks factory and on our first day were tasked with the job of creating and designing a new firework. We had to draw it and the effect that it would create. We then wrote down the sounds and movements that it would make. Finally we had to think of a name for it using alliteration. We wrote our name on our whiteboards and thought of lots of words beginning with the same letter as our initial and then chose some of those words to name our firework. There were some pretty impressive creations and names considering not many of us even knew what alliteration was until this week. This is actually a great game that you could continue to practise at home, thinking of a word and writing a whole sentence using alliteration with it.

In Maths the Year 2s have been adding 1 digit numbers to 2 digits by using their knowledge of number bonds to jump to the next multiple of ten before adding the remainder of the 1 digit number.  It made us realize how important our number bonds are. The Year 1s have also been adding numbers and thinking of different ways to write the same number sentence. They then progressed to word problems, which proved rather tricky  and sums with missing numbers which really got them thinking. ( 8 + ? = 13, ? +6 = 15). Please continue to practise your number bonds to 10 and 20 regularly so that they are instant recall.

In Science we did an experiment to test how absorbent different types of paper were, which was a lot of fun.

We drew some great firework scenes using chalk in Art and have been busy practising our hymn that we will be singing outside for the Remembrance service next week.

In PE this term we will be doing tennis on Wednesdays and football on Thursdays. This week we were learning to bounce and catch tennis balls, then dribble, stop and pass footballs, focussing on accuracy and control.

If you can all try to read daily that would be wonderful and please remember to mark on GoRead if you have completed your book.

Year 2s please continue to practice your times tables on Sumdog.

If you have any homework or something that you would like to show me that you have done at home, please feel free to upload it onto School spider and I will be able to see it. I know that a few of you have already done this and it is lovely to see what you have been doing at home.

Have a lovely weekend.
