Happy New Year and welcome back!

In Year 1 Maths this week we introduced the concept of number from 10 to 20. Some of the children spent further time consolidating their knowledge of numbers to 10 and shall move on in the coming week..

Year 2 are busy completing the geometry curriculum before moving onto the next section; which is on number concept associated with money. Early in the week we shall be exploring symmetry and drawing symmetrical shapes, before moving onto the section on money.

We were thrilled to see that the children had generally done some reading during their holiday as was evident during our reading lessons.

In English we read a poem by Joshua Siegal titled 'Toys". We discussed the toys they were given by Santa and talked about their responses; joy as well as disappointment. The children also listened to various strories about toys. This two week English theme overlaps beautifully with our History theme on the history of toys. The children were fascinated when shown the various versions of toys through ages. They were shown a recent version of a toy cash register and then shown an older version and one from 50 years ago. The children are encouraged to ask you and their grandparents about the toys played with in the past.

Should you have any old toys of interest, we'd love you to lend us these precious items so we can show the children. Toy telephones come to mind in their various phases.

In Science we planted cress seeds in wet and dry cotton wool on the windowsill, as well as wet and dry cottonwool in the dark. We shall be monitoring their respective weekly growth. This coming week the class will look at the difference between bulbs and seeds.

In computers the children enjoyed playing with Bee-Bots. In groups they created a scene( Art lesson) within a grid and then took turns to program their Bee-Bot to go where they wanted it to go. This required accuracy and sequencing.

In P.E. Greys class enjoyed skills games relating to football. They had so much fun!

***Please could you ensure that your child has a pair of outdoor shoes for football other than Wellies;

Wellies limit their movement and make running very difficult.

Have a great week!

**Also, please, please, please consider buying shoes with velcro straps rather than laces as it becomes incredibly time consuming to tie multiple pairs of laces each break and lunch time.
