Highmoor 15th July

Date: 16th Jul 2022 @ 10:59am

Welcome to the last full week of the year in Highmoor!

We have finished off our maths topics of money for year 3s with subtracting amounts and year 4s did some more work on decimals rounding and finding whole numbers.

In literacy we wrote a sequel to Journey and had some fantastic writing with lots of exciting adventures had by the main characters. The children really enjoyed letting their imaginations run wild. We also read Quest, the real sequel to Journey, and spent time examining the images and thinking about the clues on each page. We then watched the video of the final book in the trilogy - Return. We have also been reading 80 days around the world and are almost finished. We left the book on a cliff hanger and are looking forward to finding out how the story ends.

In geography we looked at lines of longitude and learnt about the Prime Meridian and the International Date Line. We acted out the Earth rotating around the sun to understand  how day and night happen.

Some of us took part in a rounders tournament on Tuesday against other schools which was lots of fun. Peppard performed brilliantly! Well done team!

We have started our DT topic which is designing and making a strong and stable model of a castle using a mix of packaging and nets. We are looking forward to making them on Monday.

We also started our RE topic which is thinking about if prayers help. We had lots of interesting discussion around this and focused on Christianity and how and why people pray. We will look at Hinduism next week and compare the two religions.

It is going to be so hot next week. Please can all children have water bottles in school. Sun cream needs to be applied and hats worn outside.

Have a great weekend everyone and enjoy the sunshine.
