Highmoor 18th November

Date: 17th Nov 2022 @ 10:18am

Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

Year 3s have been working hard to master column subtraction with exchanging in maths and year 4s have finished learning about area and are moving on to multiplication. We continue to work on times tables daily but do ask that children also practise at home.

In literacy we finished reading Anthony Browne's version of Hansel and Gretel and have started Michael Morpurgo's. We used conjunctions and adjectives to improve sentences and wrote two paragraphs of our own retelling when the children discovered the witch's house. We had some delicious descriptions! We also continued to work on speech punctuation basing our work around Anthony Browne's Into The Woods.

In geography we focussed on the South West coast of England to learn about how varied the coastline is.

We planned our own artwork based on either Matisse or Bearden which we will start to put together next week. Any magazines, newspapers or junk mail etc will be appreciated for the children to use in their collages.

We have been testing the porosity of sedimentary rocks over time in Science. We had some interesting results with both the weight of the rocks and also the state of them after being submerged!

A gentle reminder that Doodle maths is expected to be done every day as is reading. It really does make an impact on the children's progress. Thank you for your support with this.

Have a great weekend everyone.
