Highmoor 21st October

Date: 21st Oct 2022 @ 2:49pm

Welcome to the final week of this half term in Highmoor!

We finished reading The Firework Maker's Daughter and decided it was a book we would recommend to others! We did some hot seating in character as Lila to help us write some fantastic diary entries as if we were Lila. Our spellings have been recapping various suffixes like er, ed, ing, est and how they affect the root word.

In maths the year 4s have been practising their column addition and subtraction skills whilst the year 3s have been looking at other ways to add and subtract. Next term will start with year 3 learning how to use the column method and year 4s will continue with this.

We had a great trip out on Thursday to the Thames in Henley (thank you to Amelie and Georgia's Mum for helping us) it was a rather wet day but we still had lots of fun spotting the natural and man made features of the river and we met the Lockkeeper who told us lots of interesting facts about the river and his job.

It was really lovely to have so many parents, siblings and friends in class after school on Thursday. All the children were so excited to share their work and had been looking forward to it all day.

We finished our week with some firework pictures inspired by the book illustrator Peter Bailey using chalk and oil pastels.

Next term our class read will be Hansel and Gretel by Michael Morpurgo. This is an extended version of the fairy tale that we are all familiar with. We will be comparing this with the Anthony Browne version and also reading his book Into The Forest.

We hope you all have a lovely half term and look forward to seeing you in November!
