Highmoor 23rd September

Date: 23rd Sep 2022 @ 8:00am

Welcome to another week in Highmoor.

We have continued to read 'The Firework Maker's Daughter' and wrote a character description of Lila thinking about all that we have learned about her so far. We finished writing our poems about rivers and included all the vocabulary we have been exploring over the last couple of weeks.

We are continuing to focus on place value in maths. Year 3s were finding 1,10 and 100 more or less than a number, putting numbers onto a number line, partitioning numbers into 1s, 10s and 100s and then thinking about other ways we can partition numbers eg 436 can be partitioned into 300, 106 and 30. Year 4s were partitioning flexibly too for numbers up to 10,000, placing numbers on a number line, estimating and finding 10,100,1000 more or less than a number.

In geography we looked at the water cycle and learned about the constant cycle of evaporation, condensation and precipitation. We were shocked to discover that we are drinking the same water that the dinosaurs were drinking millions of years ago!

We are continuing to learn about forces in science and had more fun investigating how different surfaces exert a different amount of friction.

Spellings this week has been all about the prefixes dis and un. We thought of words that we knew that started with these prefixes and recognised the effect they had on the root word.

In PSHE we were again thinking about our responsibilities and how we must be responsible for making decisions that keep us safe. We also thought about the differences between risks, hazards and dangers.

Please don't forget about doodle maths - children are expected to log on and do their daily questions. Reading should be recorded in Home School Diaries. Please also make sure times tables are learnt. Thank you for your support with this.

Have a lovely weekend.
