Highmoor 24th February

Date: 24th Feb 2023 @ 9:43am

Welcome to the start of a new half term in Highmoor.

We have started to read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane in our ERIC sessions and this will be our class read for this half term. We used dictionaries in literacy to understand some of the new vocabulary in the text and acted out some of the words like jaunty. We wrote character descriptions of Edward and had fun describing him and his expressive ears!

In maths year 4 have been continuing with fractions. We investigated proper and improper fractions and mixed numbers and converted between them. Year 3 have been learning the bus stop method to divide and will move on to fractions next week.

We are continuing with ancient Egypt as our topic for another week until we move on to gaining an insight into other ancient civilisations. We spent our history lesson investigating a variety of artefacts and trying to match them to their owner.

In science we learnt all about the digestive system. Once we'd learnt about the different parts we made a model and used food and drink, tights and a mixing bowl to replicate the journey through our bodies! It was great fun.

This term in PSHE we are learning about our feelings and emotions and how we are all VIPs! We thought about friendships this week, how they can change, how and why we make friends and the different types of friends we have.

In PE this week we started with our regular mile run and then got stuck into our new topic, exploring different ways of moving about a space. This week we were particularly focused on moving as a group and developing awareness of other people in the space.

This week's spellings are in the back of children's Home School Diaries if they had them in school otherwise they were just given them on a piece of paper. Please can you support your child in learning these at home. Reading and Doodle maths continues as homework like normal.
