Highmoor 24th March

Date: 24th Mar 2023 @ 9:09am

Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

It has been assessment week this week and all children worked hard and tried their best.

In maths year 3 have been learning about mass. We have been working in kg and g, converting between them and learning to read scales on sets of scales which has proved to be quite tricky when figuring out what amount each line represents. We will continue with this next week. Year 4 have been working with decimals again, focussing on 100ths. We have looked at them in place value charts, on number lines, converted between tenths, and divided whole numbers by 100.

We have had fun in literacy/history writing non chronological reports about the Indus Valley civilisation. We have included sub headings, pictures, captions, fact boxes and lots more. We did our own research about the ancient civilisation and decided what we wanted to include in our report.

Last week we had fun painting canvases after observing the colours in our local landscape and then trying to recreate the colours mixing paint back in the classroom. This week we have added detail to our canvases by stitching.

In science we are continuing to learn about the digestive system and enjoyed writing kennings in literacy about them. We have been investigating what stains our teeth (coffee, tea & coke) and what decays our teeth (OJ!). We set up another experiment to see which toothpaste is effective at keeping our teeth safe from acids (vinegar). We discovered that whilst toothpastes help protect the egg shells, our teeth will still decay over time.

Homework is spellings, doodle maths, times tables and reading.

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
