Highmoor 25th November

Date: 25th Nov 2022 @ 12:38pm

Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

We have been continuing to subtract using the column method in year 3, some of us have moved on to solving word problems using our new addition and subtraction skills. In year 4 we have been focusing on multiplication and division and using our times tables knowledge to solve problems. We also spent time drawing line graphs to represent our results from Science last week.

In literacy we are continuing to work on speech punctuation using Into the Forest as inspiration. We have been reading Morpurgo's version of Hansel and Gretel and looked at the use of similes and metaphors to describe and then wrote our own description of the witch using some of these.

We learnt about how erosion and deposition have helped to form our coasts and identified features such as sand dunes, headlands, stumps, bays etc and thought about which action had helped form them.

In PSHE we discussed various negative emotions, how they made us feel and coping strategies. The children were keen to share their own strategies with each other and we had a very relaxing time practising breathing techniques, stretches etc whilst listening to some calming music!

We learnt about various types of igneous rocks in science; how they differ depending on where they cool (inside or outside of a volcano), the rate at which they cool, and how this affects the crystals from which they are formed.

We assembled paper versions of laptops in Computing and started to learn about the jobs of some of the components.

Have a lovely weekend all.
