Highmoor 28th April

Date: 27th Apr 2023 @ 10:52am

Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

In maths year 3 have continued to learn about fractions of amounts. Place value counters have been used to help understanding, we started with looking at unit fractions of amounts (1/4, 1/5, 1/7 etc) and moved in to non unit fractions (so 2/5, 4/9 etc). Year 4 finished their decimals work by working with 0.25 and 0.5. They moved on to looking at measuring in km and m and converting between the two.

In literacy we studied various Roman myths including ones featuring Hercules and Ceres. We retold the myths orally and wrote sentences about them using subordinate clauses. We also read more Anansi fables.

In history we investigated the spread of the Roman Empire throughout Europe and Africa over the centuries.

We are really enjoying PE at the moment, it's great fun going to the tennis courts and practising our tennis skills. On Wednesdays our PE is on the common where we are learning about rounders and improving our skills in this.

In art we watched some cut-paper animations and thought about how movement was created. We took lots of notes in our sketchbooks! We then watch both a shadow puppet and stringed puppet interpretation of two Anansi stories and discussed what was needed for both to make each successful. This will help us when creating our own moving cut-paper puppets next week.

Homework continues to be daily Doodle maths, reading, times tables and spelling.

Special mention goes to Taylor and Barney for their Doodle maths. Both boys have achieved a streak of over 200! This is amazing and both boys should be really proud of themselves. The benefit that this continuous practice will bring to their maths knowledge is huge. Well done boys!

Have a lovely weekend all.
