Highmoor 30th June

Date: 30th Jun 2023 @ 9:45am

Welcome to our week in Highmoor.

In maths we have been continuing our work on time. All children have been converting from analogue to digital with the year 3s focusing on using am and pm and year 4s using the 24 hour clock. Children have also been solving word problems relating to time and investigating the calendar.

In literacy children have been working on a leaflet designed to persuade people to go on a holiday in a foreign country. We have been using computers to type our writing into a template and are really enjoying combining literacy and IT.

We have continued to learn about Chiwa, the girl from Malawi, specifically focussing on her family as sugar farmers and the impact of Fair Trade.

We looked at the different types of Roman housing in history and how that affected settlements in Britain. We also learnt about other things that have  had a lasting impact that the Romans brought with them such as a legal system, running water in settlements, Christianity, writing, money etc.

We have been learning about earthquakes and volcanos in geography and having lots of fun finding out what makes the earth behave in the way that it does.

We had a very exciting unveiling of the fish (named Michael Buble by the children!!) we have been mummifying for the last 3 months from when we were studying the Egyptians. The salt that the fish had been kept in had successfully drawn out the moisture from its body which is now preserved for future Highmoor students to investigate! It was fascinating to have a look at Michael Buble, if a little smelly!!

It was lovely to see so many of you in the class for the book look in Wednesday. Children are always very excited to share their work with you.

Homework is spellings, Doodle maths, times tables and to read.

Have a great weekend everyone.
