Highmoor 6th May

Date: 6th May 2022 @ 1:12pm

Welcome to our week in Highmoor!

In maths this week we have been learning about decimals. We started by recapping tenths as fractions in yr 3 and tenths and hundredths in yr 4 and how they relate to each other. Both year groups quickly grasped the concept of decimals and could place them on number lines and look at equivalence to fractions. We have also continued to look at fractions of amounts.

In literacy we continued with the book Tell Me a Dragon and wrote lovely poems including lots of descriptive language. We also perfected our performance of The Dragon Who Ate Our School. We hope you enjoy the clip of our finished performance which we did for Greys Class.

On Tuesday some of us took part in a tennis tournament which was great fun. All children played brilliantly and were a credit to the school. For those of us back in school we had a visitor from Sue Wright who works at Wallingford museum. We had lots of fun learning about the impact the Normans had on Wallingford. We became archaeologists and used an aerial photo to see the development of Wallingford's defences from the Anglo Saxon banks and ditches to the site of the Norman castle. In our history lesson we then learnt about why William built so many castles and looked at the advantages and disadvantages of motte and Bailey castles and stone castles.

We drew dragon eyes in art and used shading and patterns to add texture and detail. We were all really proud of our pencil drawings.

Our science lesson this week was lots of fun. We looked at the different elements of electrical circuits and constructed our own.

Homework for year 3s continues to be Sumdog for times tables work and reading every day. Year 4s now have a maths workbook which will provide the children with an opportunity to revise topics previously learnt. One page should be completed each day Mon - Fri. Books need to brought into school to mark each day. Year 4s should also continue to read every day.

Don't forget our trip on Tuesday next week. Packed lunch, sturdy shoes, and a waterproof coat/sun cream need to be remembered!

Gave a great weekend everyone.
