Highmoor 7th October

Date: 7th Oct 2022 @ 12:22pm

Welcome to another week in Highmoor.

We have finished our topic of place value in maths. Yr 3s were placing 3 digit numbers on marked and unmarked number lines and working out 10 and 100 more or less than a number. Yr 4s were estimating and rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We are all continuing to work on our times tables in class, please can you help your child with this at home, details of which table they are currently working on are in the back of their home school diaries. Don't forget to practice tables they've already learnt too.

In literacy we have been using powerful vocabulary and conjunctions to describe settings and characters from The Firework Maker's Daughter. The children produced some lovely work that we are all very proud of. We have also been reading and learning a poem for Harvest which we will share with you at the church service.

We have been looking at homophones in spellings this week, words like their, there, they're and eight and ate.

In Computing we have been sending and receiving emails and becoming familiar with how emails work.

We have been investigating the strength of different magnets in science; we increased the size of the magnets and their magnetic field.

We had fun using charcoal and pastels to draw fruits and vegetables, thinking about light and shade to accompany the Harvest poem we have been learning.

Homework is to read every day and Doodle maths.

Have a great weekend everyone!
