Highmoor Class - week commencing 10th December

Date: 16th Dec 2018 @ 11:15pm

This week in Numeracy we explored fractions. We began by identifying shaded fractions of a shape. We moved on to find fractions using strips of pictures that we were able to fold to calculate a half, quarter and third. To help us, we went outside onto the playground and divided ourselves into different fractions! We labelled fractions on empty number lines and finished the week applying our knowledge of division to find fractions of amounts.

In literacy this week we wrote letters in role and discussed the style and layout of a letter. Towards the end of the week, we finished our class reader Ottoline and the Yellow Cat and finally got to the bottom of the mystery! We went on to discuss the impact of the way the story is structured, mapping it onto a story mountain from start to finish. We were able to see the way the excitement and mystery of the story grew as well as the clues the author included throughout to keep the reader gripped. After Christmas, we will begin to design our own mystery stories.

On Wednesday, we put up our Christmas tree! We decorated it by colouring and folding nets of 3D shapes into Christmas baubles. We enjoyed some christmas music while we worked!

Children who are in the choir did a super job of representing our school whilst out singing at the WI Christmas lunch on Wednesday.
