Highmoor week commencing 10th Feb

Date: 15th Feb 2020 @ 2:08pm

Welcome to the last week of this half term!

We started our week with a visit from a lady from Wallingford Museum. She told us a bit about the history of the town around Norman times, we looked at aerial photographs and tried to spot the remains of Wallingford castle which was at one time as big and impressive as Windsor castle. We ended our session playing a game pretending we were Anglo Saxons, we had to decide how we felt about changes that the Normans introduced to society. It was great fun and we are all looking forward to our visit to Wallingford in March.

Later on Monday we went to Henley Leisure Centre and took part in an athletics competition against Kidmore End and Sonning Common Schools. It was a really fun event. Everyone took part in several different activities including relay races, long jump, javelin, obstacle races and lots more.

In maths we recapped some of the things we have learned this term including measuring and converting in cm and mm, kg and g and fractions.

We wrote our newspaper reports about the Battle of Hastings. The reports are excellent and we all worked hard to include all the features of a newspaper report.

We continued to learn about Greece and have started to construct persuausive writing to encourage people to visit the country.

In art we finalised our plans to construct models of a castle. Some of us started to build our models. Please can anyone that hasn't bought in cardboard boxes etc bring them in on the first day back otherwise we won't all be able to build our models.

The term ended on a high with the Valentines Disco. Thank you so much to FOPS for organising this for us. It was lovely to see so many children and adults there.

No homework over half term but there are spellings to learn and please continue to read and practise your times tables.

Have a great half term everyone!
