Highmoor week commencing 10th May

Welcome to another week in Highmoor.

This week in literacy we have focused on writing our myth. We thought about all the Roman Gods and Goddesses we have been learning about, the different myths we have been reading and then planned our story. We made sure to include a dilemma for our hero or heroine to solve with the help of the Gods. We wrote some fantastic stories and made sure to include lots of descriptive writing techniques, speech, and grammar that we have been learning recently.

In RE we spent some time investigating the different religious and non religious charities that have been set up to help people in times of war and suffering. We made posters explaining what the charities do.

 
Maths for year has been all about equivalent fractions and comparing and ordering fractions. Year 4 have continued with time, switching between analogue, digital and 12/24 hour clocks. We also converted between seconds, minutes and hours and solved word problems.

In Science we investigated our teeth! We used mirrors to look at our own and could identify our incisors, canines and molars. We discussed their different functions. We have started an experiment to see the effect of sugar and acid on egg shells which represent our teeth. We have placed an egg in a cup of water, one in a cup of cola, one in an energy drink and one in water. We have been checking each day to see if the egg shells have changed and will look at the results properly next week.

Homework is spellings and Sumdog for times tables as usual. Please make sure these are completed along with reading every day. Times tables and reading really are so important.
