Highmoor week commencing 12th July

Date: 16th Jul 2021 @ 10:27am

Welcome to another week in Highmoor!

It has been a great week as we got to experience life in our new classes. Year 4 moved up to Springwood where they met Mrs Watkins, Mrs Elson and the year 5s. They had 2 fun filled mornings and came back very positive about September. Year 3 got to be the oldest in the class again and did a great job of showing the year 2s how things are done in Highmoor.

In maths year 3 have continued to work on time. Comparing duration of events and switching between analogue and 12 and 24 hour digital clocks. Year 4 have been working on division using the bus stop method and using it to solve problems.

This week in literacy and RE we have finished our biographies of a more recent Good Samaritan. We have looked at Captain Tom, Marcus Rashford and Dr Barnado. We have also written our own Good Samaritan stories and considered what it is to be a good neighbour.

In PSHE we have been learning about Chiwa a girl in Malawi and her dilemma in choosing between continuing her education or helping at home. We have then gone on to look at Fair Trade and how to make the world a fairer place.

In Guided Reading the children have enjoyed Cliffhanger by Jacqueline Wilson and they have written imaginary postcards home based on different characters in the book.

We continued with our topic of the Mediterranean in geography; looking at all the different fruit and vegetables that grow in the region.

We have had 2 sporting events which some of us took part in - a rounders competition on the common against Sonning Common Primary School and Quad Kids. All Peppard children performed well and behaved impeccably.

Spellings and Sumdog have been set as usual.

Please remember sun cream, water bottles and a hat in school.

Enjoy the sunshine this weekend everyone!
