Highmoor week commencing 12th November

Date: 16th Nov 2018 @ 1:59pm

It has been another exciting week in Highmoor. The highlight was definitely seeing all the animals that Spirit of the Wild brought in to show us on Friday. We got to touch and feel lots of different creatures including a chameleon, Mexican Red Legged spider, a fruit bat, stick insects, cockroaches, an owl, a meerkat, snake and others.

In maths we spent most of the week looking at time. Year 3s focussed on telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes both to and past the hour, using am and pm and on both analogue and digital clocks. Year 4s were telling the time to the nearest minute and calculating time intervals which crossed the hour. It would be really useful if you could practise telling the time with your children at home. We also spent some time putting data into bar charts and presenting it in pictograms.

In literacy we met George Stephenson! We had prepared questions to ask him and had a lot of fun debating the pros and cons of railways with him! We wrote diary entries as if we were him and letters to our friends as if we were Victorian children experiencing our first train journey.

We finished our watercolour paintings which were based on the style of Monet or Van Gogh. We evaluated our work and thought about how we could improve and develop it. The results are excellent and we all feel very proud of the work we have produced.

During this half term in PE we are learning all about tag rugby. On Monday we played games to help us dodge and practise our passing techniques. It has been lots of fun out on the common and our skills are improving every week.

In Science we were measuring force using Newton Metres, we recorded our results in bar charts.

Have a great weekend!
