Highmoor week commencing 13th December

Date: 16th Dec 2021 @ 5:31pm

Welcome to the last week of term in Highmoor!

On Monday we finished our unit in computing about collaborative learning. We have become more familiar with Google classroom. We all worked on one document setting the rules for behaviour when we work together online. We then wrote story openers and our partner was able to comment on our writing online. We will continue with Google classroom next term and look at spreadsheets.

On Tuesday we had our DT day. This time our topic was using appliqué techniques when sewing. Some of us found this really difficult. But all children did so well, persevering when faced with the needle unthreading….again… or finding the stitching difficult. Everyone made lovely Christmas decorations and should be really proud of themselves.

On Wednesday we had RE day where we covered this terms topic of Judaism. We started the day learning about how Judaism was founded by reading and writing about Abraham and Sarah and Moses. We were lucky to have Dave, a previous parent of Peppard School, come and visit us and share some stories about what it’s like to be Jewish. He brought his menorah in and explained about the festival of Hanukkah. We particularly liked the fact that traditionally small gifts are given and Dave had brought us all a mini chocolate bar! We also learnt about a synagogue and how other festivals like Passover are celebrated.

In science on Thursday we concluded our separation experiment. We started with a salt solution with sand and glitter mixed into it. We filtered the the sand and glitter out of the salt solution. Then the water evaporated leaving behind the salt. We also discussed how we could mix it all back up to create a salt solution with sand in it and run the experiment again if we wished to.

We did some Christmas fractions in maths and had great fun in the afternoon watching a film - thank you FOPS!

Thank you so much for all the lovely presents you have given us. They are very much appreciated.

We hope you all have a lovely Christmas and get to spend time with your families and friends. Stay well and enjoy the festive season. See you next year.
