Highmoor week commencing 13th May

Date: 17th May 2019 @ 5:10pm

We started literacy this week with learning about the Roman Goddess Ceres and one of the myths associated with her. We retold the story orally while some of us acted it out. We also wrote extended sentences about the myth using conjunctions to join 2 clauses together. Later we continued with our work on fashions through the ages. We planned our newspaper report which we are going to write about our chosen fashion item. We studied various newspaper reports so that we are familiar with the features.

In maths we started the week learning about horizontal, vertical, parallel and perpendicular lines. The year 4s also spent time revising 2 D shapes and their features. We all then focussed on how to calculate the perimeter of rectilinear shapes. The year 4s also started to learn about finding the area of a shape.

In PE we took part in various relay races using a baton.

We have been continuing to learn about the digestive system which we are finding fascinating. We are familiar with lots more body parts and their names, I’m sure your children are enjoying sharing this knowledge with you!

In History we investigated Roman Gods and Goddesses and found out what they were responsible for.

We have been learning about Thomas Barnado and the amazing things he did during his lifetime and how his legacy continues to impact on many children's lives today.

Good luck to all the Mums taking part tomorrow. We are all really proud of you and very grateful for your efforts.
