Highmoor week commencing 14th June

Date: 17th Jun 2021 @ 12:16pm

Welcome to another week in Highmoor.

We have begun a new geography topic all about the Mediterranean. We realised that lots of us have visited the Mediterranean on our holidays and already know some things about it. We looked at a map and identifed where the Mediterranean Sea is and the countries that border it.

In history we learnt about Roman roads and the impact that they had on Britain - how they made trade, communcation, navigation, and the movement of troops easier. We also looked at aqueducts and realised that they would have brought water to towns where it was previously difficult to access.

We continued to read our book The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and wrote a detailed character description of Edward. We also wrote our own version of a story featuring Anansi the trickster spider.

In maths we all investigated parallel and perpendicuar lines and horizontal and vertical lines. Year 4 moved on to looking at symmetry and then co-ordinates and year 3 have started their new maths topic of time.

We enjoyed our art lesson which was looking at Roman mosaics and designing our own. We used our sketch books to put our ideas down and finalised plans for next week when we will start to make our mosaics.

In PE we have been practising for our mini Olympics event which will be run by Springwood children for us. We all had a go at the hurdles, relay, javelin (throwing a holwer!) and triple jump.

Spellings and times tables on Sumdog for homeowrk please and don't forget to read every day and record on GoRead.

Have a great weekend everyone!
