Highmoor week commencing 19th October

Date: 23rd Oct 2020 @ 2:44pm

We have reached the end of our first half term back in school. The children have done amazingly well coping with being back in school 5 days a week and all the changes to their school life. For the year 3s, moving to key stage 2 is always a big jump and with our new ways of running the classroom due to covid restrictions they have done a brilliant job of settling in to life in Highmoor. The year 4s had to deal with their classroom being quite different to what they have been used to, but they all rose quickly to the challenge. School is now the 'new norm' for all of us!

We had a great time on Monday investigating how shadows change depending on how far away an object is from a light source and have now finished the science topic.

Maths this week has been focussing on column subtraction which is a new concept for year 3. The year 4s were working with 4 digit numbers and more than 1 exchange. The year 3s started with 2 and 1 digit numbers and some moved on to 3 digits with 1 exchange.

Literacy has been lots of fun this week. We started by looking at inventions during the Victorian period; thinking about the problem that they helped solve and how they made people's lives easier. The children then worked in a group to produce a pitch to convince a Victorian investor to help their new business idea. The pitches were great with lots of persuasive language used. Towards the end of the week we used all of our knowledge of play scripts to write our own scenes from a play featuring our term's value - Perseverance. On Friday we performed our plays to each other which was a great way to end our week.

Spellings are on the school website to download and will be tested on the first Wednesday back. Sumdog homework has been set for over half term, this doesn't have to be completed all in one go it can be done in chunks if that is easier.

Parents meetings are via Zoom on Monday 2nd/Tuesday 3rd November.

Have a great half term everyone!
